Edge structure of graphene

Control of the edge structure of graphene is one of the most important issues in device applications. There are two types of edge structure, the armchair type and the zigzag type, and they can be distinguished by presence or absence of D-band in Raman spectrum. The figure above shows the distribution of the G'-band (red) and D-band (green), indicating the presence of armchair structure on the right-sided edge of graphene.
