New Year (1/1/2023)
Happy New Year

Happy New Year! Thank you very much for your support during the past year. All of us at the company would like to express our sincere appreciation.
We will continue to strive for further improvement of our services and we look forward to your continued patronage.
Here are messages from our employees.

Mariko Adachi, Senior Engineer, Sales & Applications

Thanks to your support, we were able to have many customers visit our showroom for demonstrations last year. We have a variety of equipment in the showroom, so we were able to make new proposals to customers who were considering the RAMANtouch, such as measuring with the RAMANdrive or vioLa, etc. We were also able to resume holding RAMAN demonstration seminars and exhibiting at various exhibitions in earnest while also utilizing the Internet. I believe that we have moved on to a new phase of our with Corona activities.

Currently, there are some contents that are difficult to analyze with Raman, even if you have gone through the trouble of considering the equipment. Of course, not all analytical problems can be solved by Raman, but this year, we are aiming to “make the impossible possible!” We hope to overcome hurdles and increase what we can do in cooperation with the technical department.

The new year will mark the 20th anniversary of Nanophoton and will be a year of many turning points for me personally. I will enjoy and do my best to make a big leap forward. I would like to create various opportunities for more customers to experience the excitement I felt when I first encountered Nanophoton’s devices, so please join us.

Yusuke Shiozaki, GM Manufacturing & Services

Looking back on 2022, it was a year in which I had many opportunities to be out in the service business. I think I was able to commit myself a little to product development while working to improve the manufacturing system. It was also a year in which I felt the end of the COVID-19 disaster, as Korean members came to Japan for training and I myself went to Korea for the first time in five years. In Korea, I saw the Korean members working hard, and I felt like I was ready to give it a shot.

In 2023, Nanophoton will celebrate its 20th anniversary. It will also be my 10-year anniversary as an employee. For the past few years, I have concentrated on creating a manufacturing and service structure, but this year I would like to increase the weight of my development work and create something new.

Kota Saito, Research and Development Senior Research Fellow

Last year was a year in which we were able to engage in a lot of R&D work, including research for new product development and design updates of current products, although we did have to obtain a visa under travel restrictions to visit a Korean showroom. In the latter half of the year, we were fortunate to win a research grant, which allowed us to reinforce our research environment (equipment and personnel) (although there was also more paperwork…). Also, more conferences and exhibitions were held in person, and it was a year in which I felt the world was becoming more and more active.

This year, we would like to take advantage of this trend and further accelerate our research and development. Nanophoton is celebrating its 20-year milestone, and we would like to develop products like RAMANtouch that will support the company for a long time.

I look forward to working with you again this year.

Katsuhito Aoki, Tokyo Showroom Sales & Applications Engineer

At the beginning of the year, I would like to wish you a Happy New Year.

Perhaps the most significant event for Nanophoton in the past year was the installation of a RAMANtouch demonstration machine at our distributor, IKEDA SCIENTIFIC Co., Ltd. This has allowed us to conduct some of our product demonstrations at the IKEDA SCIENTIFIC’s showroom, TEST STATiON. Recently, we have been receiving a great number of inquiries for demonstration requests, and we believe that more customers are now able to view our RAMAN microscopes.

TEST STATiON also supports hourly rental use of equipment. Even if you do not plan to install a Raman microscope for a while, you can easily measure high-quality Raman images with RAMANtouch and use it for your measurement and analysis work. TEST STATiON is located in Kanda, Tokyo, a 3-minute walk from Kanda Station. It is not far from our Tokyo showroom in Shimbashi, and I sometimes help customers with their measurements at TEST STATiON.

Last year, we also made a presentation at the JASIS2022 exhibition in collaboration with IKEDA SCIENTIFIC, Perkin Elmer, and Nanophoton. The three companies discussed the results of sample measurements using PerkinElmer’s FT-IR microscope and our Raman microscope. Depending on the sample to be measured, the spectral shapes of both IR and Raman are completely different due to their complementarity, and interesting results were sometimes obtained where information that was not visible in one was obtained in the other. I heard that we have received many inquiries even after the presentation, and I would like to express my sincere appreciation to those who are interested.

I hope that many of you will come and touch our Raman microscopes at IKEDA SCIENTIFIC TEST STATiON and our showroom this year as well. As for me personally, since Mr. Nemoto, the chief editor of this newsletter, has started using Raman, I would like to be able to use FT-IR microscopes as well. We look forward to your continued patronage of IKEDA SCIENTIFIC TEST STATiON and Nanophoton in the coming year.

Naoko Nakamura, Account Manager, Administration Division

In 2022, there were significant changes in the administrative department.
In April 2021, we started to convert accounting documents to data based on the Electronic Bookkeeping Law.
In 2022, the accounting ledgers will be managed in the cloud, and all administrative processes will be exchanged by data.
As an analogist, it was difficult for me to accept this change, but as I went about my daily work, I realized that sharing data and going paperless would create more time and space.

The year 2023 marks the 20th anniversary of Nanophoton’s founding.
My goal is to support Nanophoton, which is constantly evolving, from behind the scenes.
